Balai View Hotel

Breakfast was nice and the room was spacious, with hot water and a shower. The building has a lift, though it doesn’t stop on the room levels, so you still have to go up or down a flight of stairs after getting out. The stairs were in good condition. The place was well maintained.

Breakfast was better than I expected, with a few main dishes like rice with fried chicken, fried noodles and fried rice noodles, plus bread, jams, fruit, and boiled or sunny-side-up eggs. They had coffee and tea with condensed milk, and I liked the black coffee. For a budget hotel, I thought it was worth staying here. My room was big for a non-luxury hotel and clean overall. The air conditioning worked well and was silent. The main issue was very low water pressure in the toilet, though there was a bathtub. Service was good, and housekeeping responded promptly. As is common in budget hotels, there wasn’t an iron or board in the room. I asked for both; they didn’t have a board, but brought an iron quickly. It’s a few minutes by car from the ferry terminal, so not really walkable. There are a few restaurants around the hotel, and King food court is within walking distance with lots of food stalls.

The building is about 30 years old, and the toilet was poor, though the room was spacious. Staff were friendly, and breakfast was simple but edible.

It worked well for a business trip. The internet was fairly smooth and it was quiet. The suite was large, but not clean enough: there was still rubbish under the sofa table and by the refrigerator, especially used cigarettes. There also wasn’t a non-smoking room in the Suite class.
