The Oberoi Beach Resort, Lombok

The beach is right by the resort, and you can get free coconuts there or by the pool before 6:00 pm. There’s afternoon tea, kids’ activities, and plenty more I didn’t get a chance to try. Most of all, the staff were so friendly and helped us with everything. The rooms were nice and well kept, though the air conditioning smelled a little odd. Oberoi really does have amazing service. Five stars!

The four nights here left us more tired than when we arrived. Calls to prayer from several nearby mosques began around 4 a.m. and continued for well over an hour. The hotel’s earplugs didn’t help, and even stronger noise-reducing ones couldn’t give us much sleep. Food was average, with few healthy choices or good salads at lunch and dinner. Those issues are why we rated the stay 3/5. There were also a few maintenance problems, including a sink that kept clogging and outdoor lights that weren’t working properly. The team responded quickly and did their best to fix them, so we wouldn’t rule out coming back just because of that. The setting is spectacular, on a beautiful, remote stretch of Lombok facing the Gili Islands. Our ocean-view villa with a private pool was the highlight: lovely, with a surprisingly large pool and a stunning view. Staff were always warm and friendly, and our chartered day trip to the Gili Islands was handled really well. A special place, but the dining and early-morning noise made it difficult to relax and enjoy it.

The staff’s genuine warmth and attention made this feel like a retreat I’d want to return to. After staying at Oberoi in Bali, this was my second visit, and Lombok felt even more impressive for its space and setting. My Luxury Villa Ocean View with Private Pool felt like a secluded island home. It had natural fabrics, hand-carved furnishings, spacious interiors, a sunken marble bath, and a private courtyard with a lily pond. I loved having a secluded pool, ocean views, and an open-air dining pavilion. The expansive grounds were beautifully kept, with tropical gardens, green lawns, and a long, pristine beach. Meals were consistently excellent. Sunbird Café was a relaxed spot for breakfast and lunch, with ocean views and carefully made Indonesian and Indian dishes. Dinner at Lumbung Restaurant was intimate and romantic among the gardens. Afternoon tea each day and the beautiful sunsets added to the easy pace. I also enjoyed kayaking in clear glass boats by the jetty and unwinding at the spa, tucked into the greenery. The villa’s Lombok-inspired details and refined design made the whole stay feel both elegant and private. This is a deeply luxurious place that brings together nature, culture, and heartfelt hospitality.

The hotel really came through when our flights were cancelled. They helped us work out how to leave the island safely, and we felt supported through a stressful situation. That care shaped the whole stay, with a thoughtful team who seemed to anticipate what we needed. Our driver made the 1.5-hour trip from the airport easy, with cold towels, snacks, and even WiFi in the car. We were welcomed with drinks and friendly staff. The pool Villa was beautiful, with traditional design, lots of privacy, and a sunken marble bath set up with salts and candles. The pool was bigger than expected, and we watched spectacular sunsets from our own space. Breakfast was brilliant, served from a quality set menu rather than a buffet. Dinner was delicious, though the flavors seemed adjusted for blander tastes, so they could use more of that punchy, authentic local heat. There are plenty of guest activities, including complimentary horseriding. The private beach is small, but the water is stunning. It’s quite a trek from the airport and the main busy areas, so the atmosphere is quiet and secluded. They really do look after your every need and then some.
