Villa Tanah Carik

We were glad to be well away from the bustle, even though it's about 30 minutes from Ubud in traffic. The little village is a 15-20 minute walk away, with a few shops and cafes. Staff can arrange day tours, though it took a few steps, so make sure you've got WhatsApp. They were polite, friendly, and helpful. We had a big family group and used both villas, so the generous space was much appreciated. The grand rooms and bathrooms made a great impression, and the rice field view was amazing. Beds were comfortable, and the bedding was clean and fresh, though a bit old, with a tear in one doona cover. The villas could use minor maintenance and a deeper clean. The pools are small but fine for a swim. There are restaurants nearby, including Green Kubu and Secarik Kopi. Secarik Kopi is staffed by the villa team, who kindly brought meals over. The kitchens weren't really usable during our stay, which was okay for us, but if you plan to cook, I'd ask for them to be fully stocked and cleaned.

We had a cozy short family holiday in the villa, with its antique-style furnishings. The staff were super friendly, and scooters were ready to rent. The coffee shop across the shop had great meal options. It's about a 20-minute ride to Ubud city and away from the touristy spots. We enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets nearby. Our only concern was that the pool water was cold.

We had a great three-day stay with our kids, using two rooms. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and the curtains kept the light out. We had a private pool to ourselves since nobody was staying downstairs. There's a kitchen if you want to cook, though we usually walked 3 - 5 minutes to have dinner at Greenkubu, basically next door. The rice field views were great. The road could be a bit noisy, and the towels could do with replacing, but those were the only two issues.

The rice fields are lovely to look at, but I don't recommend staying here. Every pillow in the villa was full of black mould, including the ones my family, children included, slept on for four nights. Staff had clearly changed the pillowcases knowingly, which made it even worse. The hot water lasts for just a flash, then it's cold. Showering children in cold water isn't nice. Our third problem was eating at the restaurant across the road, which literally buys its reviews. We all came down with D&V afterward.
