Gede's Homestay

The location isn’t especially convenient, so you’ll need a way to get around. It also took us a while to find the homestay, since we hadn’t booked ahead and weren’t expected, but a kind neighbor helped us. Gede is a very friendly host, speaks English really well, and communication was easy. The room had what we needed, including a little terrace with extra seating, quiet air conditioning, and a large refrigerator. Breakfast was excellent: eggs, homemade bread, and the biggest, best fruit platter of our whole Bali trip. We stayed one night and can definitely recommend the homestay. Wishing Gede lots of success.

Gede was kind and helpful, and the room had lots of useful things, including a fridge, water heater, drinking water, and mosquito repellent. The terrace and garden were nice too, and breakfast was good. A really great place to stay.

By the time I reached Tembok at sunset, the quieter roads and peaceful views on Bali’s east coast had started bringing back the feeling I’d been missing. That’s where I found Gede’s Homestay. I knocked, and Gede welcomed me warmly. His kindness and calm were exactly what I’d hoped to find. Earlier, I’d landed in the chaos of Uluwatu, a place I used to love, but this time it felt different. The streets seemed full of tourists and short on locals, and the welcoming energy I remembered wasn’t there. The local people didn’t seem as warm, which shocked me. I didn’t want to fall out of love with Bali. It felt as if tourism had pushed the traditional Balinese spirit into the background, hiding the heart of the island I’d come for. So I packed up and rode my scooter east. The further I went, the more that familiar energy came back, and my heart felt lighter. My stay was more than a night’s rest: Gede made me breakfast, we shared stories, and I left mentally fulfilled and physically rested. If you’re reading this, Gede, thank you for your warmth and for reminding me of the true Bali. I’ll definitely see you again. To anyone traveling through Bali, don’t miss this place. It’s only a few coconut trees from the beach ;)

Gede was really kind and helped with anything I needed. Since I planned an early checkout, he offered to make breakfast early. The room was big and clean, with a place to sit outside, cold AC, a refrigerator, and free refill water. I stayed one night during my Bali loop on a road bike. If you’re riding from denpasar toward ida bagus mantra karangsem, I wouldn’t recommend doing the loop clockwise. In my opinion, that route is harder.
