Jhoanie Hotel

There was no warning when we booked that the superior rooms are in the basement. They were described as "new," but ours was very dark and humid, smelled like an ashtray, and was noisy because karaoke was set up at the end of the corridor. We were asked to pay an extra 100k per night to move to a "deluxe" room. Its door couldn't be shut without extra force, and the glass toilet door was backwards, transparent, and had no lock, so anyone could see inside. Another deluxe room didn't have those same "features." The hotel ruined our vacation.

The deluxe room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. At 6 a.m. I went looking for information, but there didn't seem to be a receptionist on duty. The staff could have smiled more. Breakfast starts at 7, and fried rice with egg was the only thing available. I thought that was good enough. My Telkomsel signal was poor, just 2G (EDGE), but the hotel had fast wifi for internet.

The pool and the view of Lokon were great, but cleanliness and safety matter most to me, so I can only give one star. We stayed with our two babies in room 211. The floor, window, and bathroom were dirty, and the lighting was very dim. Both windows were broken. I told reception, and he said it was fine and everything would be safe, even though someone could open a window from outside. After breakfast, the restaurant closes at 10, and we couldn't even order simple french fries for my son at the pool.

One of the best budget hotels in North Sulawesi. I'd give it five stars once the extra construction around parts of the hotel is finished.
