Herman Homestay by OYO Rooms

The service wasn't friendly, and the rooms were unclean with hard mattresses. The amenities didn't match what the apps said, so for a homestay room at the price of a two- or three-star hotel, it wasn't worth it. Prices shown on apps like OYO and Ticket.com didn't match the check-in price, and we were asked for a significant extra payment. It was a hassle for us.

The room was dirty, with rubbish and dirt left by the previous guests. They provided coffee and tea but no drinking water, which was surprising. The mattress was quite hard, so sleeping wasn't comfortable. The price on tiket.com was different, and we had to pay about 70,000 Rupiah more at check-in. The price was the main reason we chose this homestay. We were blamed for the mismatch instead of getting an apology. Hot water kept cutting out, and the water often went off altogether. That was especially frustrating in the cold at Bromo. Herman Homestay really is surprising, haha.

The owners are incredibly friendly, and the view is absolutely stunning. They aren't working with other parties anymore, so just stop by and ask whether a room is available. You can also buy food there, like noodles or fried rice.

The facilities were poor. Cups and rubbish hadn't been cleared, the sink drained straight into the bathroom rather than into its own drain, and the place smelled of feces. The mattress was made of two layers of sponge instead of being a spring bed, and the carpet was dirty, covered in hair, and hadn't been vacuumed. I booked through Agoda/Oyo, but they asked for extra money when I arrived. The app had a price of 100,000 Rupiah, while they wanted 150,000 Rupiah. They said the deposit paid through the app hadn't reached the hotel and that it wasn't their problem. They also said Herman Hotel no longer existed, but Dewi Sri was still listed in the app and hadn't been removed or closed. It was confusing. This was the worst hotel I've ever been to.
