Abadi Guest House

I booked three nights, then kept extending until I’d spent nine nights there. The family was organized, welcoming and always willing to help, and Mr. Fernando was a wonderful host. My room was spacious, the bathroom worked well, and the balcony felt almost like it was right over the lake. Such a peaceful place. The service felt five-star to me. Thank you, Mr. Fernando!

The host lady was really friendly, and I enjoyed the stay for what I needed: a room with a lovely view over the water. It was cheap, too. The shower didn't work and the path down to the cottages looked a bit worn, but those things didn't bother me much.

They charged me $8, and I really don't think it was worth it. The younger guy running the place does try, but I'd pay a little more and stay somewhere else. The room had bugs, no toilet paper, soap, fan or towel, and the bed left my back hurting. The view was poor compared with the rest of the island. Noise came from everywhere: the owner's music, the neighboring building, traffic, a band across the water practicing until midnight one night, karaoke the next, then local boys playing music two doors down. It all carried into the room.

We had booked two nights but checked out after just one. The room and toilet were dirty, the toilet wouldn't flush, there was no hot water, and the only electrical socket was broken. All we had in the room was a double bed and a plastic chair. The worker also tried to get extra money out of us. Only stay here if there's nowhere else for you to go in Danau Toba.
