Limbo Lux Bungalows

Lovely view of are guling beach.

It’s about 15 minutes from Kuta town, but feels like a good place to switch off and enjoy the waves and surfing. I’ll come back to Indonesia, and especially Limbo, when I have more time.

The bungalows are brand new and just a few steps from one of the island’s best beaches.

The beach was full of trash, and swimming didn’t feel possible. We were worried about getting hurt. The bungalow itself had plenty of problems too: the door was damaged and wouldn’t stay secure even when locked, and a rat got into our room in the middle of the night, though we had no food there. The sink was installed crookedly, so dirty water didn’t drain properly. There were ants in the room, and the pool stayed completely green for all three days of our stay. Street dogs slept around the grounds, including right outside our bungalow, and sometimes followed us in on our scooter. We booked through booking.com and the trip to Limbo "Lux" Bungalows was over a rough off-road route, leaving us far from Kuta and other signs of civilization. There was no hot water; when we turned on the shower, it smelled of rotten eggs, which staff said was normal. We were shown the room and left to it. No one cleaned it during our five days there. Staff didn’t speak English, called everyone "bro," and often weren’t around when we needed help. We rented scooters through the staff. The first was barely usable: broken kickstand, bad brakes that needed at least 20-25 meters to stop from 30 km/h, and a broken mirror. The second had similar brake trouble, no license plates, and some extra modifications. We returned the first with a full tank because we only noticed the problems later, then had to argue for a long time to get our money back. The woman meant to open and close the gate slept all day, so we did it ourselves. She handled rentals too, but sent us to her mother whenever something went wrong. Neither of them spoke English. When we rented the bungalow, an employee wanted cash and couldn’t work out the four-day total, even counting on his fingers.
