Astana House

The location is great, just a walk from Ubud Market, but we couldn't sleep. Noise started around 5 a.m. with sweeping, furniture moving, and loud conversations, then construction nearby began around 8 and could clearly be heard inside. Neither my friend nor I got any sleep. We were there for less than 24 hours, and the room was below what we'd expected. There was visible mold near the air conditioner and in the bathroom, with an unpleasant, strong musty odor. The pillows smelled too, even after I asked for fresh pillowcases. The place needs renovation, or at least proper mold treatment. A very disappointing stay, and I wouldn't come back.

The rooms were clean and tidied every day, and the beds were comfortable. Staff were helpful too. We didn't have a kettle in the room, but they were happy to boil one when I asked. I'd brought my own travel cup and tea. I liked the little pool and gardens, and the location was great, tucked away enough to stay quiet. The rooms do need some work, with damp problems and generally poor workmanship. Hot water doesn't last long, so turn the shower down to make it stretch.

We spent 12 nights here, two on the ground floor and ten upstairs. The ground floor shower had stronger pressure, but hot water never ran out on either floor. Rooms were spacious, with a fridge, safe, TV, air conditioning, free wifi, and a table and chairs outside. The bed was comfortable, and they supplied an electric kettle when we asked. There's a nice in-ground pool, and the staff were really kind and helpful. It's a quiet spot, with motorbike parking out front, and shops and restaurants very close by. I'd happily stay again. For the location, cleanliness, comfort, great staff, and value, I gave it five stars. Thanks to the Astana staff for making us comfortable!

It's hard to get more central than this spot in Ubud. You can walk everywhere, so there's no need to rent a motorbike. The room was new, and the shower was okay, though it could be better. Mornings were quiet, with a beautiful sunrise. For a budget hotel, you're paying for the prime location. After seeing some bad reviews, I was surprised by how decent everything was. Maybe those guests had a misunderstanding.
