De Metra Villa Ubud

The villa was attractive and good, but the constant chicken noise nearby was really disturbing throughout the day. If you want somewhere calm and peaceful to relax, I’d avoid this location.

I wish I could rate this place -1000. The stay was deeply disturbing. From the start, the manager, Bagas, made me uneasy, and it turned out my instincts were right. We found out he had been secretly taking photos of me without permission. He looked visibly nervous when we confronted him. My husband checked his phone, and we were horrified to find numerous inappropriate images of other female guests, including explicit and non-consensual photos. We reported it to the local police right away and handed over the phone as evidence. Navigating the process in an unfamiliar area was difficult, but the authorities were ultimately very supportive. This was traumatic. Please be extremely careful if you’re thinking of staying here. I hope sharing this helps others stay safe. Trust your gut and report anything suspicious.

The villa is gorgeous, surrounded by all kinds of plants and trees, and we had a lovely pool to ourselves. Even the bathroom felt amazing, like showering out in nature. We felt welcome and safe the whole time, thanks to Bagas and the team, who looked after us so well. We had an amazing stay and hope to come back soon.

I loved this place. It’s a lovely group of just six well-equipped villas in Sayan, very close to Ubud. The rooms are large and decorated in Balinese style, while the huge semi-open-air bathrooms have a look that’s quite different from homes in the West. Each villa has its own private pool, which was a godsend in the heat and humidity. Staff are friendly and helpful, and several restaurants are an easy walk away. One thing to know: there’s a chicken farm next door, so you’ll hear the chickens early every morning. It didn’t bother me, but if you want to sleep late in peace, bear that in mind.
