E Sanctuary Resort Ubud

Being a little away from the main streets gives the villas a private feel, and the rice terraces are right beside the beautiful resort. Everything around it is neatly maintained. With just 8 villas, the service felt personal and exceptional. I ordered gofood and the staff kindly brought it straight to my villa. It’s a lovely spot to get away from the busy pace and spend time in nature. I’d choose this resort again if I’m back in ubud.

I liked the room, but the service, especially at the restaurant, felt lacking and painfully slow. We ordered on WhatsApp as instructed and waited 40 minutes for a reply. Toast wasn’t available because the oven was broken, and the French toast I tried instead was dry. The next morning the avocado breakfast couldn’t be made because they had no avocado, and the portions were small. At checkout they said two glasses were missing, though we hadn’t seen any in the room. It seems they later realized the glasses hadn’t been supplied to us at all. The service felt below what we’ve had elsewhere in Bali. The two stars for service mainly reflect the 40-minute response and the unanswered WhatsApp message. At breakfast, one staff member also interrupted us quite a bit, which made us uncomfortable.

The service was brilliant. We had a lot of requests, and the staff handled them all with a yes: wellness appointments were arranged within hours, restaurant dishes were adjusted, and they prepared takeaway breakfast before opening on our departure day. As hoteliers ourselves, we knew we were demanding, and the team still looked after us exceptionally well. This is a small property with only 8 villas, so it feels private and secluded. The villas are luxurious and beautifully designed, and the landscaping is outstanding. The reception and restaurant sit beneath a striking curved wooden roof. Massages, private yoga, and flower baths are available on request. The restaurant menu is broad and carefully put together. Some dishes, especially the Western ones, weren’t executed as well as the rest of the hotel, but with more training and attention I think the restaurant could become a real strength. It’s a bit out of the way, as are many Ubud hotels that offer a more exclusive feel. A taxi takes about 20 minutes to Ubud Palace. Grab pickup isn’t allowed by agreement with the local community, though drop-off is, and only local taxis can collect guests from the hotel. There are ways to get a Grab, if you’re creative 😝. We stayed five nights and were very impressed. This hotel is BRILLIANT, and I’m sure it’ll be even better when I visit again. Wishing the owner lots of success, and I hope to return when life allows.

The coffee and food were delicious, and both arrived beautifully presented in elegant tableware. The staff were attentive, friendly, and welcoming, with a warm, personal style of service. I visited the resort restaurant and found it quiet, lovely, and tucked away. The calm, tasteful atmosphere would be perfect for a romantic breakfast or dinner. It’s the kind of cozy, charming place that makes you want to return.
