We came away with two nice paintings, but paid too much for at least one of them. The next day we saw similar-looking works all over, so the piece may not have been by academy students and could even have been a print. At first, a friendly man on the street gave us what seemed like useful tips for things to do in and around Yogyakarta, then suggested an art gallery we liked. We were told the paintings were made by academy students and that the money was shared with the academy. Later we read online that this same story is used in many places, which matched what we experienced. It turned out to be a common tourist scam.

The best part I won't forget was the nighttime BBQ party. It really felt like home, and the people were so helpful. Breakfast was more interesting than just a plain Nasi goreng. They can help you discover Jogja, including some unusual spots. I recommend staying here!
