Jagi Villa

It was a peaceful, private, luxurious villa, with a lovely pool and water feature. The staff were so friendly and gave us great hospitality. They made our first stop in Bali memorable and set the bar high. We stayed five nights. What an amazing place!

We went over to check the villa a few days before our move, after a bad experience at our current place, and were glad we did. We’d booked through booking.com for the private pool and kitchen, which was what we wanted. The villa itself was nice and spacious, with a small but cute pool and a seating area. The kitchen is outside, which is handy since cooking smells don’t get into the room. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes, spas, and shops on the way, which is good. The setting wasn’t at all like the tranquil retreat advertised. It’s beside a busy road, with a large construction site right across from it, so there was a lot of noise and no privacy, which was our main reason for booking. The listing didn’t mention either the traffic or the house being built in front. We were told by a couple in the second villa that the construction was horribly noisy every morning at 7am. I’ve attached a photo of the site, with the villa on the left just behind the fence. Our booking was non-refundable, but booking.com approved our request to cancel for these reasons and told us to contact the owner. He also agreed to cancel without a penalty, as he considered our request very reasonable. Cars can’t get down the narrow road, so it’s about a 500-meter walk from the drop-off. If you have luggage, the owners will come help with a bike.

It’s a peaceful spot with warm staff who helped settle me in with a welcome drink. The rooms were nicely decorated and well maintained, and the amenities were good. It’s a great-value private villa. The location is far from the city center, and you have to walk 700 meters after getting out of the car. One caution: the pool is deep all around, which could be risky for children. For honeymooners or anyone seeking a quiet getaway like me, it was a perfect fit.

We found the price hard to beat. We’ve stayed in lots of places, and haven’t seen this kind of value for what’s offered. It’s a cozy place for a couple, with warm, friendly hosts. The road nearby is lovely and has no cars, just scooters and people on foot. A few minutes’ walk takes you to the busy Main Street and Ubud’s lively atmosphere. 10/10 recommended!
