Kubu Soca Villa

I stayed in 2017 and again in 2018, and enjoyed every minute. The villas are lovely, clean, and nice, though not very modern. They have two floors, a little pool for cooling off, a small pond with real fish, and an open living room downstairs. The staff were very polite and helpful, and breakfast was nice.

Komang made the stay especially lovely. She picked us up at the airport and made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. She also cooked a delicious breakfast, with Indonesian, American, or vegetarian options. We were there for three days at Kubu Soca in Ubud. The villa was clean and beautiful, with two bedrooms, a private pool, and a kitchen. It’s five minutes from Ubud center and has a lovely rice field view. I’ll recommend it to friends.

A rare private Bali villa, and I’d recommend it. It’s around a five-minute walk from central Ubud, but tucked away somewhere quiet, with rice fields as the main view. The surroundings are beautiful, the staff polite and attentive, and the rooms felt like a dream. Fast, free Wi-Fi is available throughout.

I was meant to stay two nights, but left right away after finding a rat living in the upstairs bedroom. Before that, a large gecko had dropped poop from the ceiling onto the floor in front of me. I know geckos are expected and that part can’t really be helped, but the rat was a different matter. I spotted it quickly, so I could leave immediately. I was too spooked to take photos, though other reviews mention rats too. I ended up at Tebesaya Cottages, less than ten minutes away, which was much cheaper and nicer, and the staff were more welcoming. I wouldn’t recommend Kubu unless you’re comfortable sleeping around animals and rodents.
