Pondok Bali

We had a decent stay, and the view from our room was really pretty. The building is lovely, though it could use some care. There were lots of bugs, which seemed understandable in such a jungle-like area, but the stained sheets were disappointing. My partner also got a pretty bad electric shock from an extension cord.

I’d happily come back. Staying in this traditional, multi-generational Balinese family home was a lovely experience, with beautiful decor and a charming patio. Our room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, with plenty of privacy. It’s also conveniently placed, just a few minutes from lovely rice terraces and other sights. I spent a morning chatting with one of the family and learned so much about their life. Highly recommend it!

The location is wonderful, and the family are good people. My room was on the second floor and had a nice river view. The other people staying there were interesting too. But the hygiene and day-to-day conveniences didn’t work for me. I had to ask for little things like tap water and a bath towel, and deal with broken taps and a remote. I ended my stay partway through my itinerary.

We were charged nearly 1,670,000 IDR, and the place felt like a complete nightmare. The online photos give a totally misleading impression. In person, Pondok Bali was run down, with crumbling walls, filthy surroundings, and an atmosphere that made us feel unsafe. I’ve never had a more miserable visit, and I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone. If you’re thinking of staying here, avoid it. This place shouldn’t be on the market.
