Puri Asri Bungalow

The family is lovely, and the breakfast portions are generous. I like sitting on the bungalow's deck in the garden to get away from the city's chaos. The location is excellent, beside a side street with incredible food options and only a five-minute walk from the main road. I come back every time I'm in Ubud because the energy here feels special. I thought that might be useful to know.

It's cheap and right in the centre of Ubud, with kind, friendly people running the place. The guesthouse is beautiful and very peaceful, with lovely gardens, statues, carved wooden furniture, and picturesque bungalows.

The staff were helpful, and breakfast was okay, though we couldn't choose what to have. The WiFi was very bad. When we arrived, three giant cockroaches greeted us, and the bungalow smelled strongly of mustiness and mold. Hygiene needs to improve here, so the stay wasn't pleasant.

For me, the location was the only thing that worked. The bedding smelled, and a woman selling art came right up to my room. Security felt poor: the Balinese doors couldn't be locked from outside, and there was only a flimsy padlock. Someone could put their hand and head inside the room. The staff may seem friendly, but I felt they subtly treated fellow Asians as less equal than their Caucasian guests. Don't expect much.
