Taman Bintang Villa Ubud

At the end of a path that motorbikes can use but cars can't reach, there are several small wooden villas, surrounded by rice paddies and little ponds with lovely flowers like frangipani and lotues. The room is simple, but it has a kettle. You have to ask reception for cups. There's also a bathtub. If a simple place close to nature is what you like, this could suit you.

We left after one night even though we’d booked four, got a refund the next day, and went elsewhere. The wooden room had lots of gaps and was painted black, so the dirt wasn’t obvious until we saw the bathtub. It was filthy enough that we wouldn’t use the shower. There were bugs all over the room, so we went out to buy bug spray, and in the middle of the night my husband woke up to a rat on his bedside table. We can handle insects, but rats in the bed area were too much. A couple of days later I had bed bug bites all over my body. I’m almost certain they came from this villa, since the place we stayed afterward was a luxurious four-star hotel and was our last-minute option after fleeing. I really wouldn’t recommend this place, especially with so many other choices around.

The owner is incredibly kind, and the staff are lovely and helpful. They’ll take you to the centre whenever you need, too. You’re right among the rice fields, about five minutes by scooter or a ten-minute walk from Ubud Centre. Breakfast was a simple, tasty egg dish each day, with fruit, juice, coffee, and tea. The poolside bungalow is a nice little spot to meditate or just sit and enjoy the rice fields, and there’s a dining area and swimming pool as well. The room and bathroom were clean, and the owner and staff were friendly and helpful throughout our four-night stay. It’s a bit away from the main street, but they offer a free scooter ride there, and it works well if you like walking too. Breakfast tasted good, though the portion was a little small to start the day. I’d recommend staying here in Ubud.
