Teba House Bisma

We only lasted about an hour before leaving for somewhere else. The room’s window was just a hole in the wall covered with a mosquito net and curtain. Dust coated the fan and lights, the floor was stained, and the sink area was far from hygienic. The bathroom and toilet were so heavily marked that we didn’t want to use the toilet. The pictures on booking.com looked completely different from what we walked into. When we said we were leaving because it was dirty, we got only a “sorry.” The owner wouldn’t refund us, and after about three weeks we managed to get £8 from booking.com, only around a quarter of what we’d paid. We’d booked this for our first week in Ubud. Avoid this place at all costs.

The garden is lovely, and the front office has a little fish pond. Our simply decorated room had a terrace overlooking the garden, and staff kept it clean each day. The team is friendly and happy to help if you need anything. The price is affordable compared with other places on Bisma street, and feels very good value. Teba House Bisma is centrally placed on Bisma street, close to Monkey Forest and Ubud Main Road. Teba House Ubud Group also has a property on Sugriwa street in Ubud. I booked two nights and was given a room that was badly damaged, with leaks and water infiltration everywhere. The only other room they offered was even worse, with more leaks. I asked if they could at least fix the leaking toilet, but they said they couldn’t. When I asked for my money back, they refused, so I lost what I paid for this awful place. It shouldn’t be open until it’s completely renovated. Stay away!

The tropical garden adds a lovely feeling to the guesthouse, and the price is incredibly cheap for a stay in Ubud with these facilities. This is a traditional Balinese compound, artistic rather than old-looking, with authentic Balinese guestrooms. The family went out of their way to give us charming local service. If you’re used to staying in local Bali places, everything is fine. It’s right in central Ubud, and the value is hard to beat. Bravo, Teba House Ubud, we’ll be back.
