Wana Karsa The Villas Ubud

The villas are a great deal, and the staff are charming, gracious and helpful. We loved the design, especially the plunge pool and the private open air bathroom. Tucked off the street, there's a little rice paddy that adds to the calm, even though you're in busy central Ubud. If you expect perfection, this may not be for you. We recently stayed at the Six Seasons, which was perfect, but cost eight times as much. We'll be back, thank you!

The bed was comfortable and the pool was nice, and the place is close to the centre. But we could hear a local bar late into the night. The mattress protector and pillow had stains, including blood on the pillow. The curtains didn't close properly, so outside light came in, and there were no ashtrays or mats to wipe our feet when it rained. The tiles were slippery. We weren't given the wifi password or personal service, and the bedside lights didn't work. We asked for the single beds to be joined for a couple, but it wasn't done. One power point had come out of the wall with wires exposed, so we couldn't use it.

We had a really awful stay. The listing gave us the impression of a private villa, but our place felt like half a villa, with thin walls and neighbors right beside us. We could hear their conversations word for word. The pool was also visible from at least two neighboring apartments, and the bedroom windows looked straight into another villa, so there was very little privacy anywhere. Sleep was nearly impossible. On weekdays, loud music from a nearby restaurant played from 8 PM to 11 PM. On weekends, it went from 8 PM until 8 AM the next day. Earplugs didn't help. Inside, the place was dark, and the bathroom was poorly laid out, with no towel hooks, a bad mirror and such dim lighting that doing makeup was almost impossible. The pool water was cloudy and full of debris and dead insects. It looked nothing like the photos and seemed unmaintained. The air conditioner barely worked and kept dripping water. Every night there were loud scurrying sounds on the roof, possibly rats, and when it rained, the roof leaked into the villa. For what it is, this place is massively overpriced. It felt low-end, noisy, uncomfortable and dirty for luxury rates. I can only imagine staying here if there were absolutely no other options, and even then for one night at most. Avoid it. It feels like a scam.

We booked three nights after seeing only a few photos and reviews on Agoda, then ended up extending our stay. You enter from Main Street through a short, winding alley, and suddenly it's quiet, with a tranquil garden full of tropical trees and bushes. The welcoming staff walked us along a stone path beside an inner rice paddy to our private villa. Yes, there's a rice paddy right among the villas! Ours was a two story home behind a huge double wooden door, with its own pool and gardens. Breakfast was brought each morning at whatever time we requested, and a floating breakfast was an option too. Mella at the front desk was a fantastic hostess and arranged spa services at Jaens spa, which was amazing. It's very close to the Sacred Monkey Forest, and a monkey may visit while you're there. Enjoy and unwind 🙏🏼 One thing to watch for: two blocks away there's another hotel with a similar name. Wana Karsa Hotel is a completely different place.
