White Cubes Villas

Really beautiful place right in town, with staff who were friendly and supportive. Getting from the road to the villa is the tricky part, though. A scooter would make access easier.

We checked in at 11am, and when my partner arrived at 5pm, we lasted less than an hour before leaving to stay somewhere else. We’ve been to Bali many times over the years, and this was the first accommodation that made me feel uncomfortable. I wouldn’t stay at White Cubes Villa again or recommend it. There’s no car access, something the listing doesn’t mention. You’re dropped at a meeting point, then have to drag your luggage along pavement and a dirt trail for about 15 minutes. The villa felt odd and unsafe to me, especially with its door secured by an actual padlock. Being a 15-minute walk from the road added to that unease. I found the description misleading because it left out both the walk and the lack of car access.

The rice field view is lovely, especially under a blue sky with fluffy clouds. The rooms are clean and feel homey, and drinking water is included. Imade is reachable on WhatsApp, though not available on Saturday and aund. He lives about 30 minutes from the villa. Cleaning happens twice a week, including the pool. I love it here and we're extending our stay. The room gets really hot during the day. With the AC it's fine, but it could be tough if you don't like air conditioning.

I was there for four nights with my pregnant wife, and the stay made the trip inconvenient enough that I didn't enjoy it. I love Ubud, but for the price and location I don't think this villa was worth it. That's my view, and I know some people may like the quiet and seclusion. I'm sharing the details so others can judge for themselves. Getting there took around 10-15 minutes on foot each way, despite booking-site information saying four minutes from the main road. The villa sits among small rice fields at the front and back. It's peaceful, which means little disruption, but I doubt help would be easy to get if something happened. The unlit path made walks at night horrible, and I wouldn't choose it for families. The manager responds quickly on Whatsapp, and his assistants were polite and friendly. I didn't see a reception counter, though, so urgent requests could be hard to deal with. It felt more like an Air BnB than a hotel Villa. We were there in mid July, and nights could be cold. There was hot water, but no heater, and it only lasted three minutes. The shower room wasn't clean, as my photos show. The two-level villa was awkward and potentially dangerous for families going to the toilet in the night. The bathroom ceiling also leaked because there's a pool above it.
