Villa Maiara

The staff were friendly, and monkeys came by every morning without bothering us. The villa has an incredible view and an amazing location, but that's about where the benefits end. It's old and has needed maintenance for a long time. It needs attention and investment. The pool was very dirty, and I don't know how long it had gone without being cleaned. The bed linen had yellow stains, the doors and locks were rusty, and the old shower head had holes that weren't all working. Water pressure was poor too. I hate leaving a bad review, but I really hope this helps bring some effort and care to the villa so it can be beautiful again.

The views are absolutely beautiful, breakfast by the pool was lovely, and the aircon worked amazingly well. Still, after our 3-night honeymoon stay, I wouldn't recommend this place, and I won't be coming back. The room was really dirty, especially the bathroom. The towel rack had mould, and the sink and bath/shower didn't look like they'd been cleaned in a while. General maintenance was poor, with lots of broken things. We saw monkeys break things, so I don't think it's entirely the hotel's fault, but it was unfortunate. There's no room service or mini fridge restocking, which was a problem since the villa is in the middle of nowhere. We wanted beers one night, ordered through grab, and waited 45 mins for them. There were only 3 sun beds by the pool, even though some rooms fit more than 3 people. There were no sockets by the bed or bedside light, so we had to use the main light, and there wasn't a full length mirror. I also didn't feel I had any privacy while changing, as people from reception kept wandering onto our balcony.

The views, staff, and cleanliness were incredible, and it's a lovely quiet retreat. How suitable the location is depends on what you're looking for, though, so I'd give that a 4.5/5. There aren't really food options close by unless you get a gojek. The beach club looks only a couple of hundred metres away, but it's a 25min walk on rough roads. If you're prepared, pick up breakfast from the shops, a 5min ride away, and enjoy a quiet morning on the balcony.

The nearby pink sand beaches are paradise, and the views here are spectacular. We stayed for 3 nights and found the staff very helpful and friendly. Keep the room doors shut, though, as you need to be careful around the wild monkeys. We'd especially like to thank Wayan for his help throughout and Ketut for the delicious breakfasts.
