The hotel is right beside a mosque, so there was noise around 4 a.m. that woke us and kept us up for at least an hour. The room was okay for a single night, but the stay wasn’t good. There was no hot water, and one power socket wasn’t enough to charge both our phones overnight. Breakfast was very poor, with just a few Indonesian dishes and no fruit, not even a banana. There wasn’t anything proper to have with bread either. The only jam was in an unlabeled jar left out in the sun and full of insects, so we didn’t feel comfortable eating it. I’d spend a little more and stay somewhere I could actually enjoy.

The restaurant sits in the middle of a lovely garden, a calm spot where I could work or meet friends. Our room and bathroom were both spacious and clean, and I enjoyed my stay. We skipped hotel breakfast because we wanted to explore Waingapu’s street food, but the friendly staff said we could order breakfast there whenever we liked. When the toilet tank stopped filling, a staff member fixed it. We also asked for fresh towels, and they arrived in no time. Thank you, Elvin Hotel Sumba, for a pleasant stay and great customer service.

It’s centrally located and easy to get to, and works fine for a temporary stay on a budget. The room was alright, though the place felt a bit uncared for and my bed squeaked. You have to order breakfast ahead, and the choices are Mie goreng or Nasi goreng, fried noodles or fried rice.

If I were on a budget, I’d probably stay here again. It’s the cheapest place in town with AC, and the bed and pillow were comfortable. There’s free parking, a hot shower, and unlimited hot and cold water from the cooler. The downsides: Wi-Fi only works at reception, not in guest rooms, and there’s a TV in the room but no Wi-Fi. I got food poisoning from the hotel’s free breakfast. There was no hair dryer or housekeeping, and breakfast choices were very limited for both food and drinks. We were given a ground floor room by the stairs, where guests walking past were loud. Ask for the 3rd level.
