Amaris Hotel Malioboro

I checked out a couple of days ago after spending a week at Amaris Hotel. The room was comfortable, the service was excellent, and I really enjoyed both the breakfast and the wonderful staff. It all went beyond what I expected. I’d happily stay again when I’m next in Jogja.

Breakfast had a good range, and children under 6 eat free. There’s also a water dispenser by the lift, a nice receptionist, and helpful security, though the receptionist didn’t offer the free-flow welcome drink. The location is prime and the price decent. My room was okay, but the towel needs replacing. There was a bad smell that day, which staff managed to clear. No hot water and very few amenities. I chose this as my second Jogja hotel because my kid wanted a pool. It’s small, but enough for a 6-year-old.

We had to keep complaining during the day before the hotel offered us a room on another floor, and we even threatened to leave. The children’s noise finally stopped only when the group left for their city excursion, not because the hotel dealt with it. The next night, a group of schoolchildren from Surabaya, as one child said, were on our floor without adult supervision. Their teachers were on another floor. They shouted, ran up and down the hall, knocked on every door, and called our room until 1 AM. Staff often seemed to be on our floor before noon, and I could hear them talking on walkie-talkies as they passed, but nobody intervened. My husband reported it several times through the hotel’s WhatsApp number because the front office woman didn’t understand English, not even the word “children.” The staff are friendly, but I didn’t find them helpful. This also isn’t a good choice if you want a non-smoking stay. A guest smoked by the window on the non-smoking floor, despite cameras everywhere. Nobody answered my call to reception, and the only response was spraying perfume in my room.

The room is tiny for what they charge, and the air conditioning barely works. Staff said they’d fixed it, but that wasn’t true. I wouldn’t really recommend staying long term.
