Kamala House Yogyakarta

There’s a great supermarket and an ATM just around the corner, and you can walk into the city in the morning. The hostel itself is spacious, quiet, and spotless, with two sockets by every bed. Staff were friendly and answered all our questions, even sharing information beyond Jogjakarta and paying for our bus ride so we could have that extra experience. They made the beds carefully every day and were generous throughout. Simply wonderful, I’d recommend it to anyone.

We found the private rooms really spacious, and the dorms were great too. Everything was clean. There’s free tea, coffee, and water, plus pleasant balconies to relax on and a big coworking area if you need to get some work done. Best hostel we’ve stayed at in Indonesia!

Supermarkets and laundry are right across from the guesthouse, and getting into the city center is still convenient even though it’s not right by malioboro. We stayed in the family suite at a discount. The AC worked well, the room was clean, and the staff were great, so we had no complaints about the stay. The floors in both the room and bathroom hadn’t been mopped properly, though, and felt a little slippery barefoot. I’d definitely come back when I’m in town.

The room was spacious for one person, very clean, and comfortable for my four nights at Kamala House. The receptionists were friendly and happy to suggest places to visit and eat in Jogja. A couple of things made the stay less convenient: the door lock sometimes jammed, including once when I needed to get in quickly, and the mirrored wall tiles by the table let people outside catch a glimpse of your silhouette when the light was on, especially if you weren’t dressed. They also let outside light into the room, so a sleep mask may help, or you can ask reception to switch the light off. Still, it’s a great place to stay! 👍🏼
