The host was friendly and the AC worked well, but the homestay looked very different from the advertised pictures. The room was tiny and damp, with lots of water marks. The bathroom wasn’t cleaned regularly, and there was a worm on the wall. The towels smelled stale, and the bedsheet hadn’t been cleaned when we checked in. We asked and got a fresh one. Hopefully the place gets more care.

The owners and their family are nice, and the house is easy to find, with some parking and a pleasant garden out front. There are two nice white dogs, and a place to hang towels. The place has nine rooms, so book early for high season. You can book easily by contacting the owner. It’s centrally located in Yogyakarta, close to the train station and Malioboro street. My room and the toilet were very clean, with no bad smell. It’s a non-smoking room, and smoking on the premises is subject to strict rules and fines. The room is simple, with a TV, air conditioning, and a comfortable bed for two. They provided two bottles of water at check-in. There’s no breakfast, but free tea and coffee. You have to wash your own glass. A washing machine is available for a fee. The door is locked at 11 PM, so let the owner know if you’ll be coming back later. Christians can walk to a nearby church.

I’ve stayed here three times already and will return when I’m in Jogja. It’s a clean, homey guest house, and the bathroom outside the room stays really clean because they clean it often. The Wi-Fi is fast enough for work, and the hospitality is great.

The housekeeper was very friendly, and the place felt calm. The room was clean too. Staying here for a night turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made.
