The people are what made Omah Guyub feel so special. Through shared meals and conversations with Andy, his family, and friends, I felt welcomed as part of a community, not just as a guest. Each day brought connection, healing, creativity, and inspiration. The beautifully made wooden architecture is only the beginning. From the moment I arrived, this felt like a way into Javanese culture, music, community, and a slower way of living. It was a soulful stay I won’t forget. Terima kasih, Omah Guyub. You’ll always have a place in my heart.

I’d been turned away by more than 40 hotels and homestays and cancelled on by three because of the busy holiday, which I hadn’t known about before arriving in Yogyakarta. This family said they were full because they didn’t have a room ready, but as soon as I explained what had happened, they cleaned a room and made the bed for me. I really liked the treehouse camping vibe. The father and daughter were both very good at English and artistically gifted. Ask about the daughter’s paintings, they’re awesome! They also gave me options for things to do and places to eat. Thanks to them for the hospitality. I highly recommend the place if you want a unique, welcoming stay in Yogyakarta.

There’s a lot of potential here, with a friendly family, cool buildings to stay in, and a little gathering spot for making music if people use it. Some basic things weren’t reliable. The electricity went out every night, though it could be fixed, and that was still annoying. There’s only a fan, no AC. We had lots of ants in our room and rats under the shed. With some repairs, a bit more cleaning, and maybe pest control or more cats to do the same job, this place could reach five stars.

The owner was lovely and arranged a Borobudur-Prambanan tour after sharing information about it. He also brought us a mosquito net when we asked. We stayed in a pretty little treehouse, and the room had its own bathroom with plants all around. The shower and regular sitting toilet were outdoors, with no roof, which made showering a really nice experience. It’s such a cosy place. If I’m back in Yogya, I’ll stay here again.

The owners and staff were so helpful, and I loved staying here. I only wish I could come back. What an amazing place, highly recommend it!
