The room was roomy, and the courtyard layout means the windows face inward. I liked having the shower and toilet in separate areas, plus a fridge and air conditioning that worked really well. There’s free water and instant coffee whenever you want, and complimentary toast in the morning, though I don’t eat breakfast. The host was lovely whenever I saw him, usually while getting coffee, and the reception staff were friendly too. It’s an easy short walk to Malioboro Street. There’s no hairdryer in the room, but you can ask to borrow one. My room had a strong damp, musty smell, which I think may come with this kind of property. The shower pressure was weak, so I had to use the lower water pipe and splash water over myself. The electricity was weak too, but usable, and a power bank only needed an overnight charge. I still rated it highly because the good points outweighed these issues.

The noise meant we never got a full night’s sleep and were tired the whole time. There’s a mosque directly across the road with a very powerful sound system, used at the same loud volume in the early morning. Renovation work in some rooms also started hammering before 8 AM. The staff were kind and helpful, and did what they could to keep things clean. Even so, the rooms smelled of insecticide and toilet odor, made worse by very old furniture. Given all of this, I’d think carefully before choosing this hotel.

A good value for the price, with the palace and main pedestrian street nearby.

Lovely, spacious rooms in a beautiful place, very close to the center.

We stayed for two nights. The hotel was clean enough and the beds were comfortable, though the towels didn’t smell fresh. After a day’s use they smelled bad, and I wondered if they’d been washed at all. The area was quiet, with restaurants nearby, and we enjoyed staying there. We walked out in the evening and got back safely. They also offer free tea and toast in the morning, which I thought was a nice touch. We booked a private temple guide through the hotel and were glad we did, since it made the day easier after our long journey. If the guide asks whether you want to eat, though, you may be taken to a touristy, scammy restaurant. We almost ate there together, but changed our minds after seeing the place. Don’t waste your time there, there are plenty of good spots in yogya. I recommend the hotel.
