We especially enjoyed three massages during our stay, and each one was professional, relaxing, and memorable. Many thanks to the Spa Centre team for their skill and hospitality. The Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta has beautiful heritage architecture, excellent service, a warm and relaxing atmosphere, and a comfortable room. Breakfast was delicious, with lots of choices. We had a wonderful stay and look forward to returning.

We stayed seven nights and had a very enjoyable visit, with service as the highlight. The staff were helpful and service oriented, including Arnold, Redit, Leo, Ayunda, Teger and Ruge on the restaurant team, along with Bayu and Sela. Lala handled laundry, and Miftah was at the front desk. The hotel has charm and architecture based on its original Dutch design, and it's well located. We even walked to Jalan Malioboro. Our junior suite was nicely decorated and roomy, and the hotel was good value. The couch was worn and needed replacing, though, and the bathroom sink drainage and hand washer could use attention. The restaurant offered a good range of Indonesian and Western breakfast dishes, plus an extensive lunch and dinner menu. The pool was attractive and a pleasant spot to get out of the heat, and we also used the Spa facilities.

The room was one of the dirtiest we've ever seen. There were hairs on the pillows, stains on the pillows and duvet, mold in the corners, and a dirty chair. It all felt neglected. The balcony had strange mesh and an unpleasant view. We left right away and canceled the booking. We arrived late and were checked in kindly, and told we'd gotten a “free upgrade.” Looking back, that made us wonder what the original room was like. The hotel looked nothing like the online photos, more like a worn-out version of a place that may once have been luxurious. There was even a large advertising banner on the way to our room, which you wouldn't expect in a 5-star hotel. At reception, taxi and tour rates were displayed that seemed extremely overpriced. We wanted to discuss the room with reception, but nobody was there despite the “24-hour front desk,” so we had to leave and follow up with a polite message and photos. The hotel responded after two days to say they'd “look into it,” and then we heard nothing. It's now been a week. The staff were kind and aren't to blame, but this absolutely isn't a 5-star hotel. It's disappointing to see it associated with Accor’s Handwritten Collection. At best, it feels like a 3-star hotel pretending to be 5.

The pool area was a relaxing spot, and the location made it easy to explore the city. I had a very pleasant stay at The Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta. Its classic feel and beautiful colonial-style architecture add a lot to the experience. My room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, with the basic amenities I needed. The staff were polite, friendly, and always willing to help. It was a comfortable, memorable visit, and I'd definitely consider coming back.

We spent 6 nights at the Phoenix hotel in Yogyakarta, and would definitely recommend it for a relaxed stay. It's very central, making it easy to explore the city, and breakfast had lots of variety and was very good. The rooms were tidy, the beds really comfortable, and the staff delivered excellent, friendly service each day. Terima kasih to Anul and the rest of the team!
