Ashbourne Court Hotel

Alan at reception was friendly and professional, and helpful on the phone when I needed a last-minute midweek business stay. The room was clean and presentable, just what you need away from home. The bar was lovely, and the place seemed mostly full of construction tradespeople on Wednesday. I paid €89, or £75 sterling, which was decent. The car park behind the hotel has a sliding gate and felt very secure for work vans. I’d stay again. I can’t comment on the food since I didn’t eat in the bar or book breakfast.

We got a room within an hour of arriving on a bank holiday weekend, and the staff were really accommodating and pleasant. The hotel was lovely and spotless, and the bar food was good too. A bit more signage for the car park would help.

We’ve stayed here many times and were looking forward to another visit, but after a long flight we found ourselves on the third floor with the lift out of order. The hotel was full, so there wasn’t another room available. I explained that we were tired and unhappy, but felt our complaint was dismissed. The receptionist was asked to pass on our concerns, yet at checkout the receptionist knew nothing about them and asked if everything was OK. I had to explain again that we weren’t happy. I hope management value our custom enough to acknowledge our feedback.

The rooms are very basic, but they do the job if all you need is a bed. It was noisy at night, the room paint was peeling, and there was a stale smell through the hotel. Breakfast was fully booked, so we couldn’t get any. We got the bed we needed, but beyond that it was lucky to scrape two stars.
