Chester Beatty Inn

We often stop here for breakfast, since it’s a nice halfway point between my parents’ home in Dublin and us. The managers and staff are all working hard to make the food and service excellent. This weekend we celebrated my mam’s 70th birthday here, and the team made the evening special with lots of thoughtful little touches. Nothing was too much trouble. A big thank you to Shane for helping us beforehand, and to the managers and staff for looking after us so well. We had a fabulous night. I’d recommend it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a family get-together. You won’t beat it in Wicklow.

The five of us left lunch very happy today. The food was gorgeous, and we all said we’d come back during the festive season. The atmosphere was lovely, the decorations fabulous, and the staff so friendly.

I was disappointed by how inflexible they were about smaller portions. There can be plenty of reasons an adult might ask for a kid’s portion, maybe they’re a picky eater, aren’t very hungry, or can’t manage a large meal for physical or medical reasons. I understand a restaurant or hotel needs to make money, and I’m not asking for a big discount on children’s meals. But guests should be able to order a smaller portion at a reasonable price, instead of being made to buy a full adult meal or heavily change one for only a small price reduction. Hospitality should make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. Being told no over a simple request like this makes me less likely to return, especially when I wanted to enjoy the meal without wasting food. I tried the place for something different, but wasn’t impressed. I think they should reconsider this part of their service and find a better way to accommodate different guests.

We tried Chester Beatty Inn for dinner this evening and had a lovely experience. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and the food was wonderful. We’ll definitely be back!
