The food was easily the best part of our stay. Everything was delicious, well cooked, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. Compliments to the chef. But for a place advertised as a four-star spa hotel, there were a lot of problems, and our group of 22 women on a yoga retreat came away with mixed feelings. The hotel was cold throughout, including the rooms and shared areas, so it was hard to relax. The spa didn’t feel especially restful either: the pool and saunas are small, and it was crowded with so many guests. Restaurant service was chaotic. The manager seemed to lack the organization and leadership needed, and staff were rushing around in a way that added stress. Even so, our group was left waiting without attention for long stretches at lunch and especially dinner. At lunch, we had to ask several times before anyone brought proper cutlery for chicken wings. Staff often seemed inexperienced and overwhelmed. We also had to ask repeatedly for bathrobes, which weren’t in the rooms. Paying was a hassle too, since the hotel couldn’t split the bill for each guest to pay separately. The food was excellent, but the heating, organization, and service for groups fell far short of what we expected.

The food was just what you’d hope for, top class, and the staff serving it were about as friendly as they come. Our room was huge and spotless, with a massive double bed that made for a great night’s sleep. With all those windows, the building feels bright and airy. I call it the house of light! I’d definitely go back.

What a great night at the Christmas party in the Athlone Springs Hotel. There was music for all ages, and Darren was the star, keeping everyone laughing and making the whole room feel involved. Between courses, they had a few games, and dinner was lovely. The beef was melt-in-your-mouth good, and I loved the special recipe ice cream. We were welcomed at the door by two smiling young men who offered complimentary drinks and helpfully explained the choices. The waiters, waitresses, bar staff, and management all did a great job. We were looked after from the moment we arrived. Well done to everyone.

The staff were lovely, so pleasant and helpful, and the food was good. They also make a mean pornstar martini. I stayed for a wedding, and the room had everything I needed, including an iron and ironing board, tea and coffee, and a hairdryer. Asking for a later checkout was easy, at €20 an hour. SuperValu is right around the corner, less than a minute away. I’ll definitely return.

My car had run out of electronic juice, and the manager at Athlone Springs Hotel was really helpful. Just a heads-up, the charger at SuperValu doesn’t suit a Nissan. I appreciated the help 😊
