Westlodge Hotel

The restaurant and bar were really nice. The bar felt cosy and quiet, and had sandwich menus. I ordered chips and a sandwich. I’m gluten free but not coeliac, and I told the waitresses that several times, yet they kept saying the chips weren’t gluten free. The pool was nice, if a little small. There were only two lanes, and older people occupied them the whole time, which made my sister and me very sad.

The leisure centre is a nice extra, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Really good food too, with friendly staff. Amazing hotel, and I’d definitely come back.

We enjoyed the lovely food, and a woman with black hair looked after us really well. The manager, who said he’d worked in the carvery restaurant for two and a half years, first showed us to our table and walked off without menus. When he returned and took our order, we had to ask if we could get drinks. Usually, when we eat out, someone asks if we’d like a drink while waiting for our food. My husband called him back to ask whether he was getting peppercorn sauce. The manager then called over my son-in-law to say he didn’t like the way my husband had spoken to him. Neither my husband nor my son-in-law had done anything wrong. If he had an issue, he should have spoken to my husband himself. He needs better training and should check his own manners. We were lucky he stopped coming to our table. Irish people have a good sense of humour, but it seems he doesn’t.

The hotel had a fantastic atmosphere throughout, and the room was beautiful. We stayed for our anniversary with the “Besties Getaway package” and couldn’t have been happier. The food was delicious at both breakfast and dinner, and there was lovely live music in the lobby that night. The leisure centre was easy to get to and always had lifeguards on duty. Special thanks to the staff working on the night of the 19th of July. They were spectacular and really made our anniversary special.
