An Grianan Hotel

We came in for lunch and really enjoyed it. The food was fresh and tasty, and the staff were friendly. It's a comfortable, well-appointed hotel, and I'd happily recommend stopping by.

The breakfast was average but perfectly okay, and the beds were very comfortable. Our spacious room and the hotel's excellent architectural joinery stood out. We were there for a family stay during the Halloween festival in nearby Derry City. An Grianán Hotel is well located and very well kept. I'd recommend staying here if you're nearby, and it seems like it could be a great setting for a family event or wedding.

I've visited this hotel several times for weddings over the past few years, and the bar, wait and reception staff have always been great. This last visit went very differently. At 6pm we asked reception whether we could book a taxi for later. They said they don't take advance bookings, but could order one if we came back half an hour before leaving. At 11.30pm reception was shut, so we were sent to the Night Porter. He said he'd order a taxi on his phone, collect us when it arrived, and took a £10 deposit. He told us it would be at least half an hour and we could go back into the event room. Over the next 20 minutes he walked past our table several times and made eye contact, but never told us the taxi was there. When I asked for an update, he said it had come and gone and our deposit had gone with it. He insisted he couldn't find us, got defensive, and blamed us. I know people can be hard to locate at a large event, but we stayed at our table for the next 1.5 hours to make it easy. It seemed like he made little effort to find us. We paid for a service that wasn't delivered and are still out of pocket. We expected to get home at midnight, but didn't arrive until 3am after spending those three hours trying to arrange our own taxi. Don't rely on the hotel for transport, and don't pay for anything unless you can be sure they'll provide it.

What a beautiful setting and such a lovely atmosphere. I've seen plenty of hotels, but this one really stands out for its unique location and friendly staff. Anyone looking for somewhere to stay in this part of the islands should choose it. Highly recommended!
