The Frontier Hotel

The food was good, so that’s where the one star comes from. The rest of our stay was the worst hotel experience I’ve had, even as a frequent traveller. The older woman at reception sounded lovely on the phone when I booked, but was rude face to face. She asked where we were from, and when I said we were local, told us we were from the countries we’d moved from and that home is home. Who asked you, Karen? Just do your job. We booked a standard double, but the standard was in the dumpster. They’d pushed two single beds together, with two single mattresses, and we kept falling into the gap whenever we lay down. There wasn’t a hairdryer, and when we asked for one, the woman came to our room to check we weren’t lying. It was hot and there was no fan, so we had to chase staff for that too. The room phone couldn’t dial reception. After it was replaced, we asked the reception girls for the number and they took forever. I still don’t know what it was. Water from the shower overflowed onto the bathroom floor. When we reported it, a staff member tried to clear the drain, then used one of the towels she’d given us to wipe the floor, right in front of us. It was my birthday, which I celebrated at the pub. None of the staff were kind enough to wish me a happy birthday. One did tell me she could smell the candles burning.
