The Connaught Inn

We didn’t stay, just came in for dinner with the family today because nearby restaurants were full. The location is handy for holiday makers and away from the busiest routes. The kids’ meals were good, though portions were small. The small Caesar salad was tiny even with the paid extras, and the red Thai chicken curry didn’t look or taste fresh. Service wasn’t great, especially as the place wasn’t very busy.

Breakfast tasted okay, but the service was awful. They brought our food without cutlery, and we had to keep asking for things that should have been provided in the first place. The room was cramped, the floor incredibly dirty, and it didn’t look like it had been cleaned after the last guests. The shower was clogged and flooded if you showered for more than 5 minutes. I won’t be going back.

The owners and staff were friendly. Our room was basic but clean, and the bar food was very good. Breakfast was good too, though the plates came out piping hot. That’s fine for adults, but my 2 children kept burning themselves. Our room was right beside the smoking area, and since the bar was very busy on one of the 2 nights we stayed, it probably would’ve been better to have a room further away.

There was lots of parking round the back, with a back entrance too, and the owner was welcoming when I arrived with 4 of my children after dropping my 5th to Gaeltacht. He told me the room was ready and showed us up. It had the described set of bunk beds, one single bed, and two singles joined together to make a double. The room was very clean and modern, with a TV and tea/coffee facilities. The bathroom was clean too, with towels for everyone, soap, and shower gel. It was nice and quiet, and breakfast in the bar area had lots of variety. The staff were helpful and nice. A perfect spot for a night or 2, especially if you have 4/5 kids. I’d stay again. 😃😃😃
