The taxi delay left me so late that I missed my ward appointment slot and had to wait in the lobby for another opening. I’d ordered a cab for the hospital well ahead of my 11.00 arrival time, and at 10.50 reception said it was four minutes away. When it still hadn’t come by 11.06, I was told traffic might be bad and that I could book another myself. I got an Uber, which arrived six minutes later, but nobody made much effort to find a replacement or seemed concerned about the delay. I’d come down from County Louth after Mater Private recommended the hotel and said they offered a favourable rate. Check-in was fine, and the small double room suited me travelling alone, though it showed some wear and was near noisy machinery, possibly generators. Dinner in the adjoining restaurant was disappointing too. The food seemed reheated rather than freshly cooked, and the King Prawns were so overdone I couldn’t eat them. Very poor service. I won’t be back.

Breakfast in our room the next morning was just what we needed after a long day and night. I’d filled in the order around 2am after a few pints, ignored the checklists and wrote “2 Fry’s with everything.” They still made it for us, and it was amazing. We’d booked a small wedding lunch for 12 after getting married at the registry office. The hotel went above and beyond, arranging a private room with lovely wedding decorations when we’d only booked a suite for the night. The food was sublime, the portions were huge, and the price felt very reasonable for the quality and amount. Everyone in the family was happy with the experience. We’ll visit again.

The food in the bar was amazing, and the bathrooms were clean. We stayed at the Rochestown for two nights, and all the staff were friendly and very helpful. Someone in our booking used a wheelchair and walker, and getting around was very accessible. We’ll come back.

I could hear the guest upstairs from 6:15 in the morning, every creak and stomp, doors closing and even the toilet flushing. The floors seem to have timber between them, and the sound insulation is nowhere near what I’d expect of a four-star hotel. The room needs a serious refurbishment. Furniture was heavily worn and chipped, the walls and ceilings were marked, and the framed feature photo was attached with a cheap galvanised bracket visible outside the frame. The bed was okay but seemed old, and my wife found it uncomfortable. There was just one bedside lamp, which I had to move over to read. The many downlights had a single working switch, so they were either all on or all off. For a longer stay that would be unpleasant. The air conditioning worked, but it was very loud. It was mild outside, and I wouldn’t want to sleep with it running in winter or summer. The room was cold when we arrived. Closing the bathroom window vent helped, but the window still didn’t shut properly and let in a draught. There was no towel rail, only one hook, so drying towels was awkward. A wall tile was broken, there were old plug holes, and the wall mounted toilet flush button was partly broken and didn’t work properly. There was also old mould or staining at joins like the mirrors and ceilings, the kind of thing that’s hard to clean. At least the hotel is easy to get to, with great parking, and the reception and bar are pleasant and look up to the standard you’d expect of a four-star place. Staff were friendly and efficient. I stayed 15 years ago and found it welcoming then too, but this room certainly isn’t four-star anymore.

The food was incredible, and every guest told us how delicious the dishes were. Staff throughout Rochestown Park Hotel were warm and helpful, from the people serving meals to the reception team. Joanne also went above and beyond with our room arrangements. Shiby guided us through the planning with care, professionalism and attention at every stage. On the day, his presence helped everything run smoothly. Wayne took over for the second part of the celebration, and his warmth and professionalism made it even more special. Our wedding at Rochestown Park Hotel was wonderful from the start. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience, and we’re grateful to the whole team for their care and service. They made the day unforgettable. With thanks, Liz and Barry, wedding date 26.09.25
