Ashling House

The photos made it look alright, but the room was freezing, there was no hot water, and the TV was smashed and wouldn't turn on. It was so cramped I could barely move. No room service or shared area, and although it's advertised as a B&B, there was no breakfast. The house shown isn't where you actually sleep, either. They put you in an outbuilding with no service. The walls are paper thin, so if the couple next door argues, you hear every word and won't sleep. Think twice before booking. I'd rather pay a few extra quid than spend a night in hell. I never complain, but this was truly dreadful.

For what you get, this was wildly overpriced, and the place had an odd, deserted feel. The lone worker seemed unprepared to check anyone in. When I came back from dinner around 12:30 pm, I was locked out because nobody had told me at check-in that the outside door needed a code. There's no breakfast, and the shower goes from painfully hot to scalding.

The room was left untidy, the coffee supplies weren't replenished, and the bins were emptied just once during my stay. Calling this serviced accommodation feels like a stretch. I barely saw anyone from staff: the cleaner had to let me in, and the manager only appeared to say I'd checked out late. That was after I'd knocked on the locked doors marked 'private' and called for help during a power cut in my room on the first night and a fire alarm the next morning. It felt dangerously understaffed.

Room 6 was a good one, and everything was clean. Staff were very, very friendly, though they never seemed to be around. There was a kettle in the room, towels and soap were supplied, and a little piece of chocolate on the bed when I arrived was a lovely touch. No small shampoo or anything like that. I read that one room has the toilet right beside the bed, but that wasn't room 6.
