The rooms were large and comfortable, and it’s a very nice hotel in general. But luxury doesn’t mean much when the welcome and service fall short. I’ve had better service at Holiday Inns. The staff weren’t very welcoming overall, and the bartender at the Whiskey bar was almost rude. At check-in, as a Platinum member, I was offered 600 bonus points or a drink voucher. I chose the voucher, expecting two because I was with my spouse, but got only one. The Intercontinental hotels in Madrid and Lisbon gave me an extra voucher for my spouse, though it wasn’t a big deal. At 12:30 pm the room wasn’t ready. They said I’d be given priority and contacted by phone or text once it was ready, but I never heard anything. I left my bags at the desk and came back around 4:30. When I showed the tag, the clerk told me to go to my room because the bags were there. I had to explain that I didn’t know my room number and hadn’t received a key; he seemed surprised, which didn’t make much sense. We tried breakfast, but it was a small buffet in a room near the lobby, and the wait for coffee was long. I’d have preferred a self-service coffee machine. At The Whiskey bar, the bartender didn’t seem to want people sitting at the bar and sent us to find a table in the Lounge, where someone would come for our order. It took a while before anyone did, and most of the cocktails weren’t great, except the watermelon one.

The only regret is that we had such a short visit and couldn’t enjoy everything the hotel offers. We’ll have to come back. The Intercontinental in Dublin lived up to its five stars: the rooms were spotless and luxurious, the hotel was beautifully decorated, and the facilities were first class. Breakfast was like eating in a restaurant, and everyone was friendly and polite. Special thanks to Alan, who was extremely helpful and made sure we were well looked after.

The hotel had a calm, elegant feel and a real sense of luxury. My room was spacious, clean, tidy and beautifully kept. Everything was comfortable and well looked after, which made my four-night stay really relaxing. I had a lovely experience and would happily stay again.

The location is another perk: Grafton street and the shops are a 40-minute walk away, and Sandymount beach is just a hop and skip from the hotel. It’s worth seeing at low tide, and there are a few nearby trails to run on. The gym is amazing, with a Concept 2 rowing machine, three benches, free weights and kettlebells, yoga and ab mats, a universal machine, lat pull-down, three Technogym ellipticals, a Peloton bike, recumbent bike and a few treadmills. After a workout you can use the complimentary steam room, sauna and jacuzzi, or pay for deluxe spa services. There’s also an indoor pool. The rooms are deluxe, with spacious, spotless bathrooms and marble floors. There’s a coffee maker, teapot, hot chocolate and a variety of teas and coffee in the room. Service is outstanding, everyone is accommodating, and the bar and restaurant staff are friendly. The breakfast spread is excellent and worth every Euro. The Intercontinental Ballsbridge is five-star all the way. You can’t go wrong staying at such a top-notch establishment. I had to write a review after such great service.

Breakfast was elaborate and great, with good lattes and cappuccinos. The breakfast staff were wonderful too. We had a company gathering at the hotel for a week, and the reception team were warm and friendly. The rooms were spacious and fine overall, though mine was next to the lift and I could hear it all night. Lunch was disappointing for a city like Dublin, where vegetarian food is easy to find. It was all non-vegetarian with hardly any vegetarian choices. If we were lucky, we got a salad, otherwise mostly French fries.
