Sonder Mountjoy Square

The service was helpful and friendly, and the bed was a little small for two but still fine. The building’s a bit old, and we heard odd noises from a fuse box. I reported them, but don’t know whether anything was done after I left. The city center is about a 15-minute walk away, which I think is completely fine. Highly recommend for a “couple days” stay.

The staff were great, and we liked having enough room to eat a few meals in. The room was well supplied with coffee and tea, and the bed was comfortable, though it was only a double. We stayed in the very bottom unit, right by the front door, so we heard every slam, conversation, and footstep on the stairwell. It’s a very good place, but we’d have preferred a different part of town closer to the center. Still, no regrets.

There was a constant sewage smell in the bathroom, even with the fan running, and the room smelled of vinegar because dirty dishes had been left soaking in the sink. The hot water was very unreliable too. I spent half my shower waiting for it to kick in. One evening the Wi-Fi went down for a few hours, though they did manage to fix it. Getting in was a headache: our keycafe code didn’t work, and we spent over half an hour on the phone sorting it out. We were sent to fetch a spare key, but it wasn’t there either. Then came a “free upgrade,” which moved us from the ground floor to the top floor. With no lift, I’d much rather have stayed in the more basic room downstairs. I’ve also never had so many repetitive, unnecessary texts and emails from an accommodation. I’m not sure I’d recommend it.

I liked the easy checkout: I just left the key at the keycafe using my code, quick and simple. There’s no lift, but otherwise I had a good stay at Sonder Mountjoy. I arrived around 3 p.m., and the receptionist let me check in early, before 4 p.m., at no extra charge. Customer Service answered my questions and needs quickly. There was a false alarm at 1 a.m. on my last night that woke the whole building, but the next morning I received a €50 refund for the inconvenience. Everyone at Sonder was very nice and apologetic.
