The seaside setting is the best part. We came with family just for food and drinks, and the views were lovely, especially in the sun. It almost felt like Spain for a moment. The meal and service let the place down, though. The €23 fish of the day with chips was disappointing for the price, and our extra drinks order was missed even after we asked twice. Lovely atmosphere, but both food and service need work.

The Strand Inn is right by the beach in Dunmore East, and the terrace is a lovely spot to watch the tide or look across the bay toward Hook Head Lighthouse. Sea view rooms and balconies make the most of that setting, too. It’s a family run place with a relaxed, welcoming feel, though it can get packed on summer weekends. Staff are often attentive and helpful even when busy, and Stacey and Catherine have been mentioned for going out of their way to help with bags or local tips. There’s plenty for seafood fans at the Strand Seafood Restaurant, including locally caught fish and seasonal Irish ingredients. The Dunmore East Seafood Chowder and cheddar topped Seafood Pie are favourites, alongside dishes such as pan fried hake, seabass, and Duncannon mussels in a black bean and ginger sauce. The wine list has a broad international selection. For a more casual evening, you can have a pint of Guinness by the open fire in the bar. It’s a scenic coastal stay with a pet friendly atmosphere, and a good place to settle in for lunch or a weekend by the sea.

The fresh fish was gorgeous, and the portions were generous. Staff were friendly and accommodating, too. I was there for a yoga retreat and would happily recommend it. Lovely family run hotel right beside the sea.

We got married at The Strand Inn in March, and the team made the day and our stay better than we’d expected. Planning from the US felt easy because Clif listened to what we wanted and helped make it happen, from the schedule to the menu. Our family and friends still talk about how great the day was, including the staff taking care of a bus full of 30 hungry, thirsty, somewhat demanding Americans. Catherine even drove my handicapped grandfather to the park when the hill was too much for him before the ceremony. The service all around was terrific, and we never felt we had to worry about things on the day. The food was a big deal for us as foodies, and it really delivered. Our guests agreed, and my father-in-law, who calls himself a seafood expert and is sparing with praise, still brings up the mussels. After dinner, live music in the pub got things going. Ronan kept the drinks coming and later got the Americans safely back onto the bus. Huge thanks to Clif, Catherine, Mairead, Ronan, and everyone at The Strand Inn. We can’t wait to come back and stay longer in Dunmore East. And if you’re in Dublin, The Dunmore in Rathmines is worth checking out, 10/10 for venue, food, and service.

We spent a weekend at a yoga retreat hosted by The Strand Inn in Dunmore East. The food was fantastic, and the spacious rooms were lovely. The hotel has a relaxed, welcoming feel and beautiful artwork throughout. It seems like a great choice for a romantic break, a weekend with the girls, or a family holiday. I can’t wait to go back.
