Harbour Hotel

The bed was comfortable, and the staff were kind, but I expected more after choosing a hotel that looked upscale online. The room and hallways were very poorly lit. Our bathroom felt dated, the taps were dirty, and the hair dryer stopped working on both occasions I tried it. At night the AC would switch off without warning and leave the room stuffy. I stayed three nights in February with my husband. The location made it easy to walk to attractions and transport, but the hotel itself felt more like a budget property than the higher-end stay I had expected.

Jean was such a kind gentleman, always smiling, and made me feel at ease. He helped make the place feel friendly and homely. I came for lunch on 27 November, and the food was lovely too. Great location, and I'd definitely come back.

Our room faced the apartment homes in the courtyard, so the outlook wasn't much, but it was quiet. We stayed four nights in a Superior King Room and appreciated how much space there was for our luggage, clothes and bathroom things. The furniture isn't modern, though it's clean and works fine, more what I'd expect in a three-star hotel. The buffet breakfast had plenty on offer, and the three staff kept replenishing it. They were friendly and helpful, and we also liked having a drink at the hotel bar in the evenings. The restaurant made me a gluten-free lunch to take along when I needed one, which I really appreciated. The location is handy for the Latin Quarter, riverside walks, sights and nearby restaurants. I found the harbour itself less glamorous and lively than I'd pictured. Compared with other four-star hotels we stayed at on our Ireland trip, this felt closer to three-star.

Mateo Brown made a real impression on me. I've stayed in hotels around the world, but his professionalism, dedication and respect stood out. Talking with him about what he wants to build in life was inspiring. He made my stay memorable, and I'd gladly return and recommend this hotel. Staff could learn from Mateo's example in the way they speak with customers. It was a pleasure meeting him.
