Travelodge Galway

Getting here from Doolin was easy, but I found the hotel disappointing and rather expensive. There was no AC, and the room smelled of cigarettes. We also couldn’t watch a film using our own Netflix account because the app asked for a PIN. Reception said they didn’t have it and that it was for data protection, which seemed odd for a hotel. I’ve stayed in 10 hotels in Ireland, and this is the first one I’ve left a bad review for. We’ll book somewhere else next time.

The rooms were clean, and the location was ideal. The staff, though, were unhelpful, quite rude and judgemental. It’ll give you a clean roof over your head, but I wouldn’t expect much beyond that.

I stayed in a ground-floor room that I think was meant for someone using a wheelchair. It had a huge bathroom and a special shower setup, which I didn’t mind, but there wasn’t much space for things like a toothbrush or toothpaste. A shelf would help. The room was clean, the staff were lovely, and there’s parking. The hotel is also close to the centre.

Breakfast was great, and the coffee too. It was a self-serve Irish breakfast, with eggs and sausages under the steel food cover. I wasn’t keen on the little fat-free yoghurt tubs with sweeteners, they were so sweet. The receptionist brought us another duvet and towel when we asked, and everyone was super nice, including at breakfast. The room was quite cold, but there’s a radiator. If it’s cold out, set it to run through the night.
