The room was dusty, and the bathroom was tiny and covered in mould. It was so unpleasant that we skipped a shower on our second day and left breakfast early to get an early check-in at our next stop. Breakfast was okay, though not as good as elsewhere on our two-week trip. We chose B&Bs and guesthouses to meet local hosts and maybe save a few euro, but we never met Shauna during our two-night stay at Westwinds. She’d emailed the evening before to confirm when we’d arrive, yet the room wasn’t ready. Staff rushed to clean it while looking panicked. We didn’t meet Shauna at all, unlike at the other lovely guesthouses we stayed in around Ireland. There was a general sense that nobody cared for the place. It was also the most expensive guesthouse of our trip. Untidy rooms, poor value for the amenities, and no friendliness. I wouldn’t recommend staying at Westwinds.

Shauna was such a friendly, accommodating host, and the room was spacious and spotless. The beds were comfortable, the shower was great, and breakfast was delicious. Westwinds is ideally placed on the prom in Galway. My family and I were very happy with our recent stay.

The owner was so helpful, sharing ideas for things to do, good places to visit and the best routes. She was kind and accommodating, and the stay was quite affordable. I really appreciated that. We had a top-floor room with a window overlooking the ocean, a brilliant view at sunset. The town, nearby restaurants and activities were all within a short walk. The room itself was very comfortable, with soft carpet and several desks. The bathroom was good quality, nothing fancy. Breakfast was a real highlight: the fried eggs with bacon were the best I’ve had, and there were plenty of other choices, from cereal, oats and yogurt to honey, seeds and Nutella. Orange juice and milk were ready, along with hot water for tea or coffee. I’d suggest this B&B to anyone looking for somewhere to stay, truly the best of its kind.

We got lucky finding this guesthouse for our time in Galway. It’s right in Salthill, with the promenade just across the road. The car was easy to park, and both the main Salthill attractions and Galway city centre are nearby. The interior is lovely, and breakfast is great, whether you fancy a full Irish breakfast or cereal with lots of toppings. Shauna is the kindest, friendliest hostess. Just wonderful. Thank you!

We liked that we could book directly by calling the B&B, as we do with a lot of places. It’s better for the owner and saves us booking website fees. The breakfast was okay, though the full Irish wasn’t really full: just black pudding, sausage, bacon, egg and tomato. No potatoes, bread, soda bread, mushrooms or beans. We probably won’t return. The double room felt pricey, and the sprung mattress wasn’t comfortable. My back still feels it, and the bed could use an update. The decorative pillow cover was rusty, yes, rusty. We could also hear everything in the house, from American neighbours arguing overnight to breakfast being prepared in the kitchen. I wouldn’t recommend it for a peaceful night after a full day of walking and sightseeing.
