Ardmore House

Tom O'Conner was a wonderful host during our five-night stay. We enjoyed the full Irish breakfast and the other breakfast items, and he was very helpful with dinner suggestions. The donkey braying in the back field in the evenings and at breakfast, along with the sheep, was a lovely part of the stay. The location worked perfectly for our trips to the Skelligs, Ring of Kerry, Ring of Dingle, Ring of Beara, Baltimore and Killarney National Park. Kenmare is just the right size for good dinner and entertainment options. That said, Ardmore House is quite dated. It was clean, but the bedding looked old and dingy, and the shower stall was very small. We had no hot water on three of the five mornings, and there were only towels, no wash cloths. Tom should consider selling to an investor who could do substantial updates. The other three B&Bs we stayed at were much nicer. I'd still recommend it if the benefits matter more to you than these concerns.

We found a last-minute booking at this B and B. Two double rooms for three guests cost €170, which felt expensive with breakfast not included. The owner was a gentleman, and the location is great for Kenmare. The rooms, especially the bathrooms, need modernising, though. It has real potential for a makeover.

I've meant to write this for months and feel bad I'm only getting to it now. This is exactly the sort of experience you hope for at a B&B in Ireland. Tom was the kindest, most helpful host, and the room, house and property were quaint, quiet and beautiful. Nothing beat having a delicious breakfast overlooking a yard full of sheep and getting travel tips from Tom. My boyfriend and I still talk about how amazing that night and morning at the B&B were.

We were welcomed with tea and snacks when we arrived, and again before bed and before heading out the next morning. Tom kept the Ardmore house running smoothly, and our room stayed clean and fresh. Breakfast was a traditional Irish spread with a poached egg, sausage, ham, and different breads and spreads. I probably won't make it back to Ireland, but if I’m in the area again, I’d stay here.
