The Rooms at Firecastle

The staff made the place feel like a warm, proud family business, and Kildare itself felt welcoming to kids, from the Firecastle team to the locals. Our corner room above the shop was clean, warm and had everything we needed, though I’d have liked carpet or slippers because the floor was cold. There was one rough moment around 2 AM when a nearby guest was shouting and scared my 2-year-old son. It was Friday night, so we understand people can get loud after an evening out. We stayed three nights, and the food was a real highlight. Breakfast was fresh and lovely every morning, just right as it was. But the pizza was something else. The dough was light, fresh and crisp, and the caramelized onions were unforgettable. I’ve tried some of Dublin’s top Italian places, including Cirillo on Baggot, 500Furno on Dame and Il Fornaio near The Point, and this was the best pizza I’ve had. We ordered it again the next day, and even wondered if they could serve it in the morning with poached eggs. I’ll be recommending Firecastle to everyone.

I loved this place. The rooms were lovely and comfortable, and the coffee, cakes and food downstairs are amazing. I’ve already been back twice for coffee. Highly recommend.

We had a great four-day break. The rooms are in a great spot, with plenty of restaurants and bars within 200 metres. There’s a bistro on site for breakfast, at an extra cost.

The family room was a good size, and the food was great. The staff were excellent too.
