After a few disappointing nights at a higher-rated hostel in Cork, I was a bit nervous about MacGabhainns. The staff quickly put us at ease: they were warm and welcoming, explained how everything worked and told us about the city. When I asked for a running route, they sent me on a stunning run that I thoroughly enjoyed. Our ensuite room was small but very clean, and the bed was comfortable. The shower had one push-on knob, started cold and warmed up fairly quickly, a little too hot for my taste. The hostel is a typical backpacking place, a bit outdated but cosy and welcoming. Good value for the price, and we'd visit again.

This isn't my first stay, and it won't be my last. The staff are amazing, accommodating and polite, and the room was very comfortable. The place has a welcoming, cosy atmosphere and is close to everything you'd want to visit in Kilkenny. I can't praise it enough.

The staff were good, but the manager didn't respect my reservation. I ended up sleeping in a dirty, cold room that was nothing like the one on the booking site. It wasn't ensuite; there was only one toilet shared with more than 7 people. The room was small and dirty. I paid 56 euro on promotion, against a regular price of 70€, but was put in a room that cost 44€. If you want to enjoy Kilkenny, don't go there. Simply sh****t experience.

Kilkenny's main attractions are all very close by, which was great. The place was quite clean, and the staff were really cordial and helpful. The beds were somewhere in the middle, neither too comfortable nor too uncomfortable, and the atmosphere was comfortable overall.

Most of the city is an easy walk from here, so the location worked really well. The hostel was pleasant, the staff were friendly, and both the rooms and shared spaces were clean and well looked after.
