I booked with Gerry at the last minute and am glad we took a chance on Rafters. We needed two rooms for a family stay, and the central location was appealing. Both rooms were really clean and comfortable, and Gerry was lovely and funny. I couldn’t believe how low the price was for the value, including a huge, hearty, delicious breakfast. The traditional pub was lovely too, with a covered, warm rooftop smoking area. It was freezing and pouring outside, but my partner and I were snug as bugs up there. There was live music that night, and we had a great time singing and dancing along. I didn’t catch the singer’s name, but she was lovely, and we chatted afterward. Breakfast had cereal, a huge fry-up, fruit, tea, coffee, and yogurt, so there was something for every appetite. The staff were lovely, especially the attentive bar worker the next morning, who had a great personality. We loved staying here and highly recommend Rafters to anyone going to Kilkenny. You may be pleasantly surprised by how fun and lovely it is. Gerry, I’ll definitely be back soon.

We had a family room for two adults and our three teenage sons for two nights at The Rafters Gastropub. It was clean and warm, with comfortable beds and all the amenities we needed. The location right in the city center is excellent, and Gerry and the staff couldn’t have done more for us. We really enjoyed the live music in the bar on Saturday night. Both mornings started with a fabulous full Irish breakfast. Five stars! We’ll be back. Thanks, Gerry and staff. Majella and Noel.

We came for the races in gowran and the group has already booked Rafters again for next year. Its central, and the owner and staff took great care of us from arrival right through to leaving. The rooms were clean, warm and comfortable, and dinner was excellent, especially the steak on a stone. Well done to everyone, I’ll definitely be back pg. Mixer

The staff were very good, but our stay in room 13 was a real disappointment. The bathroom door was warped and the lock was broken, the sink taps barely had any water, and the curtain pole was coming away from the wall. The room was cold at night, and a group of drunk guests next door kept us awake. I emailed the property afterward and got no reply. I don’t know who’s writing the other reviews, but they definitely weren’t staying in room 13.

We had a function here last week and the atmosphere was lovely. The bar lady was friendly and pleasant with everyone, and both the food and service were excellent. I’d recommend this gastro pub for medium sized functions.
