The Railway Hostel Killarney

There was rubbish left on the bed by previous guests, including tissues and toothbrushes, and the toilets had poop smeared all over them. My roommate in the three-bedroom dorm came in and pissed on the floor, and it was loud at all hours. During the day there was construction, and there were holes throughout the walls. They charged me online when I booked, then asked me to pay again at the front desk at check-in, saying Booking.com would refund it later. With conditions like these, it wasn't worth even 30 euros.

The location worked really well, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable, though the pillows weren't good. The showers were awful: you had to press a button to start them, and all they gave was a trickle of freezing water. I didn't use them.

The €20 deposit they mention at check-in is nonsense, and the woman at the front desk had an attitude. The kitchen didn't work properly, and the shower swung between boiling and freezing with nothing in between. I didn't get the feeling I'd had a good night's rest, and the place had a really weird vibe. It's an absolute kip. I wouldn't stay here even if they offered me €500.

The central location was the one upside. We found mold in the room, and there were only four charging sockets for ten people. The kitchen wasn't available, something we weren't told until we arrived, and we got no discount. They also required a €20 cash-only security deposit per person. When we asked about it, the front desk attendant was extremely rude to us and to other guests, as if we'd personally attacked her. There was no kitchen or communal place to eat, but food and drink weren't allowed in the rooms either. We were glad to spend only one night there and wouldn't return.
