The location is the one thing The Old Bank Townhouse has going for it, right in the center of Kinsale. We’ve stayed here a few times, but this will be our last. The room is dated and needs updating for the price, and noise carried easily from the hallway, the next room, and the street. At €289, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect clearer check-in instructions. We arrived around 3:30pm with quite a bit of luggage and went to reception, where we waited before asking a cleaner how to check in. We were told to go down the street to the sister hotel, The Blue Haven, and check in there. It might sound minor, but it was a hassle with all our bags. They seem to do it this way to avoid having to pay someone to staff reception at The Old Bank Townhouse. The whole thing left a bad taste from the start. There are other places in Kinsale that do a much better job for less money.

The beds and sheets definitely need upgrading. Still, the location is hard to beat, right in the center and close to restaurants, shops, and the harbor. Breakfast was great, and the two lovely ladies making coffee and serving were both delightful and attentive.

The first-floor cafe was nice for coffee, and we ended up running from The Old Bank. We checked in and found there was no running water in the bathroom. June said it would be fixed, so we took her at her word, but nothing was done. When we came back from dinner, there was only cold running water. We asked for a refund for the second night of our non-cancelable reservation. House Manager Nicole offered a free future stay, which we didn't want. This may once have been a decent place, but I wouldn't stay here.

The suite was huge and the location in town was great. Unfortunately, stains were all over the room, and the carpet and furnishings could use a good scrubbing. If the stains don’t bother you, it’s otherwise good.

The rooms and staff are amazing, and the cafe by the entrance is excellent too. Lovely staff, food, and atmosphere. What a lovely spot, well worth visiting and staying at.
