We found it easy to unwind here, away from the busy city. The house sits by the lake, about 10 minutes from Letterkenny, and the views are magnificent. It’s a traditional Irish country house, with open fires, a cozy feel, lots of comfortable places to sit, and plenty to read. The surrounding area is well worth exploring. Service was great, everyone was friendly and welcoming. Book dinner, you won’t be disappointed.

Thirty years ago we had our wedding here, and last weekend we came back to celebrate our pearl wedding anniversary ❤️ Everything was excellent, from the welcome at the door to the rooms, food, and breakfast. Irene and Caroline did everything they could to make it a memorable stay, just as their mother Mary had 30 years ago. Five stars 🌟

We stayed for one night and felt unwelcome, as if we were intruding in someone’s home. The staff were cold, and the older woman, perhaps the owner, wasn’t welcoming either. With no other guests, the place felt empty and dull. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The Sweeney family’s historic home is captivating, and its setting on the shores of Lough Swilly in Co Donegal makes Castle Grove Country House my favourite Irish country home. I love thinking of it as my home away from home. The welcome is so warm that you arrive a stranger and leave a friend. Eat, drink, and stay here while you experience Donegal, my favourite destination in the world.

The grounds were even lovelier than the beautiful rooms, and the old style decor gave the place a relaxing feel. We had a memorable night, thanks to Caroline. Service was top notch, nothing was a bother, and the food and drinks were even better. We can’t wait to return.
